This is what I'd bring for Hood to Coast... (but remember to take your own personal needs into consideration!)
REQUIRED items for night running (6pm-7am):
- Flashlight or approved hat with headlight
- Reflective vest
- One front and one back LED flasher
- Wallet with cash, cell phone, cell phone car charger
- Official timesheet and 3 timers (required), pens, clipboard, and copy of time sheet (once the official time sheet turned in, you won't see it again! So if you want that info, copy it to a second time sheet that you can keep)
- Printout of your 3 legs
- Camera
- Toilet paper roll and/or paper towels
- Wet-ones
- Plastic bag for garbage
- Electrolyte drink mix/tablets (I prefer Nuun)
- Running fuel (I prefer Gu Chomps, 1-2 packages)
- Hydration belt or handheld water bottle
- Body glide and blister stuff
- Hat, sunglasses, gloves for running
- Safety pins or race belt to pin on number
- Running watch (GPS may not work, but it's nice to know how long you've been running!)
- mp3 player w/portable mini speakers (I'd also bring headphones to wear in the van, even though it's against the rules to wear them when running).
- Snacks/prepacked meals (Everyone in my van got really tired of Clif bars and similar things and wished we'd brought "real" food in addition to our snacks. Depending on your van/legs, you may or may not be able to pick up something at one of the exchanges, but don't count on it. I brought way to much food that I didn't eat. I personally would only bring 1-2 bars, 1 package of seasoned nuts, 2 premade sandwiches, and maybe 2 premade cold meals).
- Towel to sit on when sweaty
- Sweatpants, hoodie and beanie to wear after runs/when cheering on teammates at night
- Flip flops
- An entire bottle of ibuprofin and other medications (that way your van mates can mooch Advil off of you when they can't find theirs)
- First Aid kit
ITEMS FOR THE DUFFEL BAG/BACK OF THE VAN
- Cell phone wall charger
- Several plastic bags for wet clothes, garbage
- Cooler with ice (for water, other drinks, snacks)
- Water (can use bottled or gallon sizes and refill reusable bottles)
- Pillow, sleeping bag, tarp and/or tent, ear plugs, alarm
- Towel
- Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, shampoo/body wash, contact lenses and solution, glasses)
- 3 sets of running clothes including socks, 2 pairs of running shoes
- Extra clothes for beach party
