Hi there! Today I ran the Shamrock Run 8K.
Pre-race:The whole Daylight Savings thing threw me off the night before, and I didn't end up getting as much sleep as I'd wanted. (Seriously, they need to just give up on Daylight Savings. Leave the time ALONE). I did wake up on time! Realized I didn't have my favorite pre-race breakfast foods, PB and banana and Wheat Thins. So I had an apple and a Max Muscle Lean Protein shake instead. Glammed up my eyes with some green eyeshadow and a ton of glitter eyeliner. Almost forgot my running shoes, but remembered my tutu and tiara! I ate a Larabar while waiting to start. I loved the fact that there were a GAZILLION portapotties available. Did not love the fact that it was only slightly above freezing out.
During the race: Started out running with a friend and a friend of hers, but ended up leaving them around Mile 2, since they were going to walk. I had to use the bathroom, so I decided to run by myself. The course was nice, although a bit crowded at times. And it was very well manned with volunteers and was well marked. There were tons of runners in costume, and at one point, there was even an unofficial aid station handing out Hostess treats and Pabst Blue Ribbon! I totally wish I'd gotten a picture of them.Around Mile 4, I really tried to pick up the pace and finish strong, and to make up for the slower pace at the beginning. My final 8K time was 51:12.
Post race: Went to the Post-Race area, where there was Widmer beer and Stanford's Salmon chowder. YUM. Then we went down to the Kells tent for some Irish coffee, and the Portland Saturday Market for food and shopping. Bought a cute dress for $17. Bought a chocolate hazelnut butter cup, and a scarf, and baba ghannouj. (What can I say, I love to go to Saturday Market and stuff my face!) Went home and took a long nap.
