There was tons of parking as we arrived the morning of the race. It was cool and overcast, but dry! We made our way to the main event tent, which had packet pickup inside and also served as the post race party area. The volunteers were friendly as we went to pick up our packets. I was so excited for my friend Chris to finally come to an Uberthons event! And since it was her first Uberthons 5k, she received a special commemorative necklace (even though she's run all kinds of race distances before, the medal is for anyone doing an Uberthons 5k for the first time). We stayed warm under the tent until the announcement was made to head to the starting line.
There were "corrals" but there seemed to be some confusion about what the pace/times on the signs meant (standardizing the corrals to something like 8:00 and faster pace, 9-10min pace, and 10+ pace, and walkers might help). Runners were then released in waves onto the course. The course was pretty, and flat, on the paved golf cart path around the golf course. Generally, it's wide enough for the number of runners, although it can be a smidge congested near the start.
Unfortunately, I haven't been training as much as I should have, and I've also been worried about my ankles so I decided to run the 5k instead of the longer distances. However, it was a nice opportunity to chat and catch up with my friend Chris! And I was really glad that my ankle didn't hurt afterwards :)
After we finished the race, we were handed our awesome, hefty Uberthons medals and a bottle of water, and we headed back to the big tent. There were tons of tables and chairs, which made it easy to sit and enjoy my baked potato, loaded with delicious cheese, broccoli, onions, sour cream, and black beans (bacon was also available, as were bananas and oranges). Shortly after most of the participants had completed each of the events, I announced the overall and age division winners and had them come up and receive their pin.
Definitely a wonderful event, and really enjoyed seeing fellow Uberthons ambassadors, and fellow Uberthoners :)
