Swag: Repurposed CCRC Vancouver Lake Half medals were given out with event labels for the back. Moms also received homemade medals for the event. There were tons of snacks afterwards (cookies, marshmallows, chips, banana bread, etc.) and also plenty of fluids.
Parking: There was plenty of parking.
Bag check: N/A because of the close proximity of parking.
Course: The course featured a 1.1 mi loop, and then a 6 mi out and back that was done twice. You pass the water station and bathrooms five times during the race (same station). It is VERY flat, on a decently wide packed gravel trail.
The race: The official start time was 9am but runners were welcome to come early and start at any time (it not a chip timed race--race results are self-reported and written on a clipboard after the race). Chris and I arrived early and got started around 8:30. As I started the race, I thought to myself, why am I doing this? My training plan says TEN miles. That's not the same as THIRTEEN. And I wasn't too enthusiastic about doing even ONE mile. After this week, my body was just kind of run down. Fortunately, as we ran along the course, lots of runners shouted out encouragement to one another and waved.
Post-race: Runners stood around and socialized after the event. There were tons of snacks (runners were invited to bring snacks if they wanted, but not required).
Photos: Shari Roberts got a few great photos of people along the course and posted them on facebook!
Results: For my fourth half marathon in two weekends, I did alright. 1:57:31, according to my Garmin.
Overall: This was an excellent, fun, small race on a nice course. I'd definitely run this again! If you're not into big time races but want to run an accurately marked course with water stations, be sure to check out CCRC's events.
