Leave the crowds and craziness behind. Enjoy this super low-key St Patrick's Day themed
run/walk event along the peaceful and paved Rock Creek Trail in NW Portland. --Lucky Dog Race Directors Tina & Patric Langley (Double Dog Dare U Events)
I had been debating signing up for the Adidas Shamrock Run for months. I've run it a few times in the past and it's been really fun. I love that it's one of those huge races that EVERYONE comes out for--even your friends or coworkers or acquaintances who rarely run. It's one of the biggest races/parties in the area. It's on a challenging course, and you get a medal for the 15k (and now half) too.
But for all of that, there are a lot of things that I don't love. I was really disappointed by the medals for 2014, it's crazy crowded, the lines are long for everything (both at the race, and at almost every restaurant within a few miles of the event), and to top it off, cell service is poor due to the tens of thousands of people concentrated in a relatively small area. So I've been considering an alternative race, or even not racing at all. Thankfully, Double Dog Dare U Events' inaugural Lucky Dog 5k, 10k, and 15k will get me out the door, and into a shamrock tutu that morning! It will be a fantastic smaller, low-key that's well organized (it's the same race org that puts on the Bald Peak Half and 12 Bridges Relay) and for a good, local cause.
