On Sunday I ran my 40th race of 2014, the Energy Events Champoeg Half Marathon! I had a really tough time due to the heat, and ran slower that I'd planned, but it's really a nicely done event and it was nice to run somewhere new. Can't complain about the beer or sweet medal either! Check out the official race recap on the Energy Events Blog!
Northwest Personal Training's 8th Annual Girlfriends Run for a Cure is LESS THAN ONE MONTH AWAY! This will be my fourth year participating in this wonderful and inspiring event, and I have to say that it's truly one of my favorites. Over the past seven years, they have raised over $300,000 dollars and inspired thousands of women. I am so excited that they've added some really neat things to this year's event :D

Any donation helps though--even $1.00!!!
I'm very lucky to be able to work with Uberthons and participate in their events--their races tend to be on the smaller side, and encourage runners and walkers of all abilities, while still putting on a professional, good quality event. I had been looking forward to Uberthon's Oregon Marathon & Half Marathon because this year's event started/finished at Mt. Angel's Oktoberfest, and I had never been there! I also love the concept of a race that switches locations every year to highlight different parts of Oregon.
And then I heard about Cause+Event Portland. Cyndie and Amy are the amazing race directors, and I couldn't help but get excited about their event too! Their enthusiasm was pretty contagious. And I love that C+E benefits ANY 501(c)3 cause that a participant chooses!
So there were two AMAZING but incredibly different races... and I wanted to be involved in both. So I decided to run the Oregon Half Marathon, while also doing the virtual Cause+Event race (unlike some virtual races, C+E allows any type of run/walk, whether it's outside, at another event, or on a treadmill!) Here I am, double-bibbing it. Party in the front, party in the back.

The official race recap of Gateway to the Gorge Half Marathon is up on the Energy Events blog! It was a challenging race for sure, and made my legs a lot more tired than I had expected--the first half of the race had a lot of uphill. Still, a great event with a beautiful course, awesome friends (including Solemates volunteering at an aid station!), and I'm stoked to add another medal to my collection :)

I was already committed to running the Uberthons Oregon Half Marathon on 9/13, but I just HAD to reach out to Cause+Event to partner with them this year! Race Directors Amy Ridenour Little and Cyndie Burke Pelto are amazing people who are passionate about supporting charities and about having an amazing event. They've raised an incredible amount of money and I truly appreciate their event's focus on being affordable, local, small and FUN.
The fourth annual North County Wine Run is scheduled for Saturday September 27, 2014 and will benefit the Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation. Over the past decade, Clark County has become Washington's newest emerging wine region, with growth concentrated in the Battle Ground and Ridgefield areas. The North County Wine Run offers runners and walkers the opportunity to experience this beautiful region through half-marathon and 10K loops beginning and ending at Battle Ground Village in Battle Ground, Washington. On paved country roads, the routes highlight the gorgeous scenery of north Clark County: rolling hills, rural landscapes, and views of Mt. St. Helens.Registration includes a Race Tech T-Shirt, guaranteed if registered by September 1st, Race Bib, Logo-ed Wine Glass, Chip Timing, and Finisher's Medal for the Half Marathon.
I have not yet run this race, but I'm excited to run it this year! Participating wineries include Heisen House Vineyards, Olequa Cellars, Moulton Falls Winery, Gouger Cellars, English Estate Winery, and Emanar Cellars.

If you love to run and admire Oregon's natural beauty, you won't ever want to miss the 2014 Huckleberry Half marathon and 10K! A quintessential Mt. Hood experience, the route is mostly a large loop on all-paved flat and rolling hills. Six miles of the half marathon leads runners beyond the border of the National Forest road to the turnaround at the Green Canyon trailhead—with scenery of the Salmon River, campground and bridge all along.
It's time for the second annual Huckleberry Half & 10k run/walk! I participated in this race last year, and thought that it was really well done and very fun (although a few 10k speedsters were misdirected by volunteers, and ended up running extra miles, they were offered free entries to this year's race). Last year all participants received a wooden Big Foot medal, but it looks like this year only half marathon finishers will receive one. There will also be a BEER GARDEN this year!
I really love that this year's race will benefit Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp, a cause that's near and dear to my heart! My high school (Jesuit H.S.) required that all students did two weeks of community service prior to graduation as part of being "men and women for others", so I decided to two weeks volunteering at Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp as a junior counselor for kids and young adults with disabilities. It was two of those most challenging and most rewarding weeks of my life. I am so incredibly impressed by the work that Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp does, and am so happy to see a race that I love benefit a charity that I love!
This was my first time EVER running the Fueled By Fine Wine Half Marathon!!! It was CRAZY hilly (more like hiking than running for me), but a BEAUTIFUL course. And the wine tasting afterwards was fantastic! Check out my race recap on the official Energy Events blog.
Also, I got to run as part of Elk Cove Vineyard's team, "The Herd," which was super fun to be a part of, and we had an awesome post-post-race BBQ and wine tasting out at the vineyard as well.
Race name: Lacamas Lake Half Marathon & 5k
Date and time: Sunday, July 27th, 2014 @7:30
Events and cost:
Half Marathon run/walk $55-75
5k run/walk $35-55
Kids Dash $8-10
Location: 4th & Cedar, Downtown Camas, WA. Course maps available here.
Number of runners (capped?):
Beneficiaries: Camas High School, Girls On the Run, Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) and the American Cancer Society.
Swag: Tech t-shirt (gender specific), finishers medal, one free beer from Mill City Brew Werks, bag check
The course will have a hill at the start and then it’s flat running to the lake. The moderately challenging course picks up with the old course in that you’ll do a full loop around Lacamas Lake. This route eliminates two of the major hills from prior years and then provides for a very fast finish as you’ll run down Dallas drive into downtown Camas with a finish right in front of Liberty Theater.
I haven't run this race since 2011 (way back before this event had beer!), and I'm excited for all of the changes! The event t-shirt and matching medal and Mill City Brew Werks beer are definitely good reasons to take on this somewhat challenging course. Fortunately this year, they've changed it so that you get the brutal hill out of the way early (if you've been to any of the Mill Ciity Brew Werks Pub Runs with Fit Right, you know what hill I'm talking about!!!). The trail around Lacamas Lake is one of my absolute favorite places to run, so I'm really looking forward to this event.
If you haven't registered yet, you have until 5pm today to register online! Otherwise, stop by packet pickup to get signed up:
