I'm pretty new to the whole "probiotic" thing and honestly don't know a ton about it. Probiotics are "microorganisms (usually bacteria and yeast) introduced into the body for its beneficial qualities (particularly for the digestive system)." I was kind of skeptical eating bacteria--wouldn't it make me sick?--until I found out that there are GOOD bacteria and BAD bacteria, and it's important to have plenty of good bacteria in your gut because it keeps your tummy happy! Common sources of naturally occurring probiotics include yogurt, sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, and kombucha, and the health food industry has been increasing the number of products with added probiotics too. I've been working on increasing the amount of probiotics I consume (as well as eating healthier foods in general and drinking more water), and I'm really feeling a lot better!
Attune reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in trying Probiotic Chocolate. OBVIOUSLY, I said "YES PLEASE SEND ME ALL THE CHOCOLATES!" Because I love chocolate. And I love probiotics.

One of the first shelf stable probiotic chocolate bars on the market, Attune makes it easy for families to incorporate probiotics into everyone’s diet in a tasty way they can’t resist. What could be better than chocolate that tastes good but is also good for you.. Attune brand probiotic chocolate bars deliver 4 billion CFUs of clinically supported strains of probiotics in tasty and certified gluten free bars.
The first thing I wondered was: will these actually taste like chocolate? Or will they just be a chocolate shaped and scented food item that doesn't quite satisfy my chocolate craving?? I was super excited that all three flavors (Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate Crisp, and Mint Chocolate) were very similar to "real" non-probiotic chocolate in taste and texture, just a smidge different (the Dark Chocolate bar is dairy free and vegan, so that's probably part of it). All of them were DELICIOUS and were absolutely satisfying. Honestly, I wanted to scarf down all six bars in one sitting (I had to pace myself and savor them--the recommended serving is one bar per day). Each bar contains at least 6.1 billion probiotic CFUs of three of the most clinically tested strains: lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM, bifidobacterium lactis HN019, and lactobacillus casei lc-11.While these bars are best stored in the refrigerator to maintain the number of probiotics, they can be kept outside of the fridge for up to one month at room temperature.
The Attune Probiotic Chocolate bars aren't very big--they're probably the same amount of chocolate as four small pieces of a Hershey's bar, or two Hershey's miniatures. They're a little pricey, but they're very good. If you want to take more probiotics, aren't crazy about the sour/tangy taste of most of the commonly occurring sources of probiotics, and/or want an excuse to eat chocolate--these are definitely worth checking out.
Attune also makes a probiotic chocolate bar that isn't refrigerated ($6.39 for 3oz), which I really want to try also! All of the Probiotic Chocolate bars are gluten free (both the refrigerated and non refrigerated version), and all of Attune's products are made in the United States and are kosher. And they're based out of Eugene, Oregon!
