Part 2 of 3 for the Summer Solstice Urban Adventure Race recaps--Cari's point of view! Check out my recap, and I'll be posting Mechell's recap soon! :)

Race name: Summer Solstice Urban Adventure Race
Date/time: Saturday, June 21st, 2014 @ 5pm
Registration/price: $30-50 per person
Location: start/finish at NW Personal Training (various locations in downtown Vancouver, WA)
Events offered: Adventure race; costume contest
Number of runners: 180
Beneficiary: Clark County Food Bank

I'll be honest, as fun as it sounded when Marilyn invited me to do the Summer Solstice obstacle course race, I almost chickened out at the last minute! I wasn't sure what to expect with this kind of race, but I'm so glad I did it because I had a BLAST! It was so much fun, and really well organized. I loved the shirts and all the swag, I can't wait for my free cupcake! Plus, the race organizers did an amazing job creating a fun, exciting, low pressure atmosphere for the event. It was awesome that this race could be as long/short, challenging/easy as each team chose for it to be. Setting it up like that really made it accessible to every type of runner, which is great for slow people like me! It was fun figuring out each clue, though I appreciated that cross streets were given for harder, lesser-known locations. I think my favorite obstacle had to be at Bad Monkey Bicycle, I laughed the entire time I pushed Marilyn around on a skateboard! I also liked the keg rolling at Dirty Hands Brewing and getting pink streaks in my hair at Beige Blond. I definitely did NOT enjoy the mealworms at Main Event! Thank goodness Mechell stepped up for our team because there was no way I was eating those! The party afterwards continued the fun with delicious food, beer, and raffle prizes. As good as the band was, I couldn't really chat with people while they were playing, and that was frustrating because there were so many fun people at the event! This event is being added to my annual race calendar, and I can't wait to start planning costumes for next year!

I do some pretty silly and wacky things... but by choice. I get pretty nervous about being expected to do a random, unknown silly and wacky thing! So things that involve obstacles or challenges kind of make me anxious, especially when I have a team depending on me. So even though I LOVE NW Personal Training, and Sherri McMillan, and the Clark County Food Bank, I was still kind of nervous about signing up for the second annual Summer Solstice Urban Adventure Run! So I grabbed my BFF's Cari and Mechell (who wouldn't yell at me!) and formed Team Lipgloss, costumed as a Wonder Woman trio! Because if you're Wonder Woman, you can conquer any challenge, right?!

My official race recap is up on the Energy Events blog! This post is more personal... because a lot of things happened in my life around the same time as the Vancouver USA Marathon. I've rewritten this a few times, wondering what all I should include (does anyone care what I'm thinking at mile 14?). But in the end I decided that I needed to write this for me, and if you decide to read this long post, thanks :) Hopefully it was interesting/humorous/not too terrible.

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription service that delivers five beauty or skincare samples to your doorstep for only $12 a month (and the shipping is free)! Ordering recurring boxes gives you an even greater discount.
The theme of the May 2014 box was "Fresh and Focused."

MaskerAide in Detox Diva: Hydrating Facial Sheet Mask
Full size: $4.99 for one mask
BB5: Full size ($4.99 value)
This was refreshing and fun. I like the convenience of sheet masks but at $5 per application, it's not quite a bargain.

Ban Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths with smooth powder finish in Restore
Full size: $2.97 for 10 wipes
BB5: 3 wipes (~$0.90 value)
It was unclear what these were supposed to be used for... I thought they'd be like Blum all-purpose cleansing wipes in last month's box, but these are supposedly meant for refreshing the underarm area. They have a very strong "fresh clean" fragrance to them that I wasn't very fond of. I'd rather have a multi-use product with a more generic scent to it than these.

Cattiva Precisione Retractable Waterproof Eye Liner in Black
Full size: $20.00 for 0.012oz
BB5: Full size ($20.00 value)
I was happy that this wasn't dry or brittle--it applied sooo smoothly. It's a slightly greyish black, not a true midnight black, but it's a nice eyeliner. It isn't 100% smudge proof, but I use eye primer all the time and threw on a bit of shadow on top to "set" it.

Harvey Prince "Hello" perfume
Full size: $55.00 for 1.7 fl oz
BB5: Sample spray vial, 0.05 fl oz (~$1.62 value)
This smells nice and fresh and bright. It's a good scent for the warmer months, a little generic still a nice perfume that I'll wear occasionally.

H20+ Aqualibrium Marine Cleansing Gel
Full size: $18.00 for 4 fl oz
BB5: 0.27 fl oz (~$1.13 value)
Unfortunately, this didn't do much for me. It's a very, very, very gentle cleanser, and the little sample doesn't last long because I felt like I needed to use a lot of it to get any results at all. It has a nice faint clean scent to it.
Overall, this box is about a $28 value. The eyeliner and perfume are the products I'm most likely to continue to use and enjoy.  Even though I'm not crazy about the other items, the $12 pricetag (with free shiping) still seems worth it.

Photo shoot with Inspire Film Studios!

6/7/2014

Picture
Inspire Film Studios is a pair of photographers, James and Brittney, They had been looking for some young women to model in little to no makeup for a series about natural beauty and self-confidence that they were working on, and I felt like that would be a really cool opportunity for myself and this blog so I volunteered and waited anxiously to hear what they'd say. Fortunately, they were also excited to do a collaboration and we scheduled the shoot.

I was a little nervous about going completely "au naturale"--I am a makeup and beauty blogger after all!--so I did throw on some tinted moisturizer and mascara. Brittney and James decided to do the shoot at Fort Vancouver, and it was fun! I really like how the photos turned out...
So if you need wedding photos, engagement photos, portraits, senior photos, whatever--check out Inspire Film Studios! There are even more examples of their gorgeous photography on their website, and from now until June 9th, you can get $75 off your one hour photo session by going this deal on Facebook and clicking on "Get Offer!"
