I'll be honest, as fun as it sounded when Marilyn invited me to do the Summer Solstice obstacle course race, I almost chickened out at the last minute! I wasn't sure what to expect with this kind of race, but I'm so glad I did it because I had a BLAST! It was so much fun, and really well organized. I loved the shirts and all the swag, I can't wait for my free cupcake! Plus, the race organizers did an amazing job creating a fun, exciting, low pressure atmosphere for the event. It was awesome that this race could be as long/short, challenging/easy as each team chose for it to be. Setting it up like that really made it accessible to every type of runner, which is great for slow people like me! It was fun figuring out each clue, though I appreciated that cross streets were given for harder, lesser-known locations. I think my favorite obstacle had to be at Bad Monkey Bicycle, I laughed the entire time I pushed Marilyn around on a skateboard! I also liked the keg rolling at Dirty Hands Brewing and getting pink streaks in my hair at Beige Blond. I definitely did NOT enjoy the mealworms at Main Event! Thank goodness Mechell stepped up for our team because there was no way I was eating those! The party afterwards continued the fun with delicious food, beer, and raffle prizes. As good as the band was, I couldn't really chat with people while they were playing, and that was frustrating because there were so many fun people at the event! This event is being added to my annual race calendar, and I can't wait to start planning costumes for next year!
