Alima Pure is a company I’m really excited about. They have foundation, primer, concealer, bronzer, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lip balm, and brushes that are vegan, cruelty-free, and free of irritants such as bismuth oxychloride. They’re so convinced you’ll love their product that Alima has a guarantee that you’ll love any full sized product that you purchase, or you can return it within 30 days.
I’ve been wanting to try Alima products for awhile, since I’ve heard fabulous reviews about them on MakeupAlley, and they’ve been featured in Whole Living, Allure, Glamour, Nylon, Real Simple, Body+Soul, and other magazines. And when I found out that their company is in my hometown of Portland, Oregon, I was super stoked. I’ve got a lot of hometown pride. I was born and raised in the Pacifc Northwest (Portland/Vancouver) and it’s a pretty great place to live. Yeah, there is a lot of rain, a lot of hippies/protesters and a lot of all around weirdness. But it also has breweries, vinyards, shopping, scenery, outdoor activities, art, beaches, mountains and awesome indie companies, like Alice Cosmetics.
I was sent the Let Them Eat Cake collection. Unfortuantely, this particular limited edition collection is no longer available, but there are over 100 other eyeshadows to choose from, and they have new limited edition seasonal collections coming out all the time.
So let’s take a bite... I mean... a look.

“Have you ever stood in front of a pastry case admiring the beautiful confections inside and wondered, “how will I ever choose one?” Well now you don’t have to choose just one. With our lovely “Let Them Eat Cake” collection, you get to indulge in four different types of cake, and all without adding an inch to your waistline. This beautiful collection of dessert-toned shadows can be combined in a multitude of ways, allowing you to create different looks to suit your appetite.
Angel Food is a honey-golden shade with fine shimmer, perfect on the lid, or to highlight the brow.
Strawberry Shortcake is a sweet, pale pink with fine shimmer and a sprinkling of larger golden sparkle. This shade is a beautiful brow-highlight.
Red Velvet is a medium brown that has a definite red undertone and subtle shimmer, making it a perfect contour shade.
Devil’s Food is the deepest, most decadent brown shimmer, use it to line the eye, or to create a smoky look when you want more drama.
The top swatch is product applied with a wet brush, bottom swatch is product applied dry.
Initially, I was worried that these colors would be too warm, but they looked good on my NC30-35 skintone. And they all worked beautifully together (how annoying is it when eyeshadow sets have shades that don’t work together?! I’m so glad that the Let Them Eat Cake collection isn’t like that.) The texture of the shadows is super smooth, and very pigmented It lasts well (although I always use primer)--no fading or creasing whatsoever. The plastic sample jars do not come with a sifter, however, the full sized shadows do. I’m a klutz, so sifter jars are practically a requirement for me when it comes to loose pigments. And the jars do have the cute little bird logo on them! (Put a bird on it!!! Portlandia??? Anyone...?) These shadows have totally satisfied my sweet tooth :)
I really want to try other items from Alima’s huge line of eye shadows (nearly 100!!), and 17 shades of eyeliner. They’re $12.50 for a full sized shadow (0.8oz/2.5g), which is a pretty reasonable price for the amount of product. You can order online from Alima, or check out the list of retailers nationwide that carry Alima Pure Cosmetics, so you can see the awesomeness in person.
