Booo. It has been a long week. 05/07/2010
Ladies and gentlemen, it's been a rough week. Work was rough, and included a couple of student meltdowns. My knee is still hurting, so I only worked out Monday. Talked to my PT friend on Wednesday and concluded I was doing too much, too fast; that I need to try going back to my old shoes; and that I need to foam roll more, and more places. Hopefully it'll be better soon, but I think I need to get fitted for some new shoes.
AND, I managed to get sick. :( I'm all sniffly, sneezy, and congested, and I'm coughing. I hate being sick, especially when I'm such a germaphobe. Went for a 4.3 mile run today, in my old shoes to see how I felt. My knees hurt, but one of the knee was hurting all week anyway. Lame. Went to McMenamins and got Cajun Tots, a milkshake, hard cider, and lobster fondue. Now I'm icing my knee, and watching VH1's 100 Best Songs of the '90s. Yes, I know it's on TV all the time, but I kind of love reliving the music of the '90s. (Remember Edwin McCain's "I'll Be"? The Presidents of the United States of America's "Peaches"? Lenny Kravitz's "Are you gonna go my way?") 3 Comments 22 mile training run recap 05/02/2010
So as you all know, last weekend was a semi-disastrous 18 mile training run, during which I managed to tweak my IT band. I've been foam rolling and trying to "fix it" and have been feeling better and decided to attempt a 22 mile training run today. We ran the first 7 a little fast--9 minute pace. My knees started bugging me a little. ![]() Mile 12. Carla biked with us and was nice enough to carry our jackets and miscellaneous stuff, and provide moral support. ![]() Mile 12--I was looking a little surly because my knees were killing me. "Just tell me when I get to STOP running." I felt like I could tough it out but there were times when I really wondered if I could even make it back to the car the pain got to be too bad. ![]() Mile 14. I tried to "look fast" for the picture, but it didn't work out. Man, I look rough. Bre looks good though! The last two miles of the run were exhausting. My body just felt DONE. But we did finish 22 miles with about 9:38 minute pace. SWEET. We went to Starbucks and I treated myself to a Venti latte, a heuvos ranchero wrap, and a molasses cookie. Yum. And then my grandparents took me out to dinner at one of my favorite fish houses :)
Anyone have a long run this weekend? Or a race? ![]() This is my third or fourth attempt at writing this post. It's making me a little grumpy. :( But I finally took a bunch of pictures, and want to get them online! So here it goes. Again. Today was supposed to be a 22 mile run day. I was pumped about wearing my new Pearl Izumi jacket that I won from Gazelles on Crack's giveaway. (Check out her blog, it's awesome). The jacket fits perfectly and I couldn't wait to wear it for a run. Just look at it. It's beautiful and neon! ![]() So we started off around 9am. I ran with my friend Bre, and our friend Carla biked along and carried our crap (thanks, Carla!) My knees started feeling kind of off three or four miles in, but I figured it'd go away eventually. So we kept running. and then the bridge went up, so we had to wait for it. ![]() So we waited. And waited. I took a picture because I love the waterfront. And the bridge went up and came back down. And then we ran some more! We ran an 11 mile loop and started to run it again, but at mile 14, my knee was really killing me, and Bre's calves cramped up. So we walked awhile, jogged a bit, and reassessed the situation. We decided to turn around and make it an 18 miler instead. Then we went to McMenamins to get some cajun tots with ranch, a beer, and some pasta. I was a little surly because they were out of hard cider, and their espresso machine wasn't working. And the tots were delicious in my mouth, but all those fried tots are not sitting well in my tummy right now. My knees were killing me and I was hobbling. ![]() So now I'm relaxing at home, icing my knees, and watching TV. My ankles and hips also hurt a little bit. :( I'm kind of disappointed in today's run, but I don't want to get injured (well, I probably am, but I don't want to be seriously injured). I only have two months until my first marathon, so pushing too hard isn't a good idea. When I have a rough workout, I try to remember that the body is a funny thing. It has good days and bad days and days that can't be explained. You do what you can, but you have to listen to your body. Anyone else have a long run this weekend? | Hi, I'm Marilyn!
