Russell Organics Argan Oil

$28.00 for 2 oz.
Russell Organics Argan Oil is pure cold-pressed Argan Oil. No additives. No fillers. No fragrance. No toxins. Just 100% Argan Oil. Russell Organics carefully sources its Argan Oil from Morocco.

Use any time, and on any skin type, where moisture is needed. For the face, can used used as a daily moisturizer, or can be applied before a moisturizer. A little goes a long way, only a few drops are all that is needed. To give hair a luster and sheen, rub a few drops through the ends of towel dried hair. Then style as usual.
I know that natural oils are really big in the beauty world right now, but it's kind of become a fad. I have tried a different brand of Argan oil in the past and was underwhelmed by it.  Russell Organics Argan Oil actually impressed me, and I actually do feel that it's a good multi-tasking product. My hair is really damaged but can get oily very quickly, so I have a hard time finding a product for it. I rub a few drops of Russell Organics Argan Oil in my hair after I hop out of the shower, and it makes my hair look and feel healthy (no small feat!). There's a huge difference when I use it, and it doesn't weigh down my hair, even hours later.

I've also used this on dry patches of skin on my face and body, and haven't had any issues (no clogged pores). It absorbs more readily than some other types and brands of oils, which I really like. Although $28 for 2 oz of products seems a bit high, a few drops goes a long way--meaning it'll last a very long time--and it is fairly comparably priced to other beauty oils sold by Sephora. There is a faint sweet slightly nutty scent to it, but it's barely noticeable. The dropper lets me dispense just the right amount of product without making a mess.

Overall, I like how this product can successfully multitask . I've found myself reaching for it more and more often, particularly for my hair because I hadn't been able to find a good product to make my hair look and feel smooth and shiny without weighing it down until now. I wish the price were a bit lower, but

I've heard SO much about BB creams, but I hadn't tried one til recently. When Sephora had the new Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm as one of their 100 point samples, I snatched that up right quick. I wasn't sure what exactly a BB cream is, but this post by Musings of a Muse really helped me get a better idea of what a "true" BB is expected to do.

The Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm sample I received came in Nude Glow (one of six available shades), described as a "warm beige with golden undertone." Let's take a little look-see at my before/after pictures:

AFTER applying Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm
First of all, according to the Muse's criteria, I would guess that this Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm is really more like a tinted moisturizer than a true BB cream. I haven't tried a "true" BB cream so I can't compare them. Instead, I'll focus on what the product claims it will do and how well it works for my needs.

I think Nude Glow is probably too dark for my NC25 skintone. It does add a tint, because it's too dark, but the formula is quite sheer. My skin doesn't really look more "radiant," but it might look the tiniest bit more even. It was moisturizing, but had a dryer finish than most tinted moisturizers I've tried. It didn't seem to cause breakouts, and I like that it has SPF20. I used this as a primer under makeup and it didn't seem to affect the foundation one way or another. For me personally, this product is kind of useless. Although the length of wear and finish are great, it just doesn't have enough coverage for me (or most people, I'd assume). If you have almost perfect skin, you can probably get away with using this instead of foundation. However, for anyone else, it doesn't work on it's own, and while it's not a BAD product, it's not exceptional enough in any way to replace any products currently in your makeup bag.

At Darling Girl Cosmetics we believe that everyone at any budget should be able to have quality affordable makeup.  This is why we offer two sizing options as well as samples of many of our products: Petit's (1/4 tsp jars), Full Size (3/4 tsp jar), and sample baggies with 1/8 tsp.  At these prices you could buy several jars of our eye shadow for the price of one high end eye shadow with the same great quality.
Priced from $2.50 to $5.90, Darling Girl Cosmetics are a very affordable way to try out a wide range of indie products--lip glosses, eye shadows, blushes and bronzers, lip balm, nail polishes, and more!  I really like that there are different sizing/packaging options--I was given a few sample baggies and a petit to test out. These are great for those new to indie products, as they have medium pigmentation (which is a little more forgiving), but good length of wear when combined with primer. Unlike some indie eyeshadows, these were decently pigmented even when used dry, but I found them a bit difficult to use as the colors got a little muddy and I found them a little harder to blend than my usual shadows. I love that there's no animal testing, and that there are swatches of every color product.

Laura Mercier eye pencil in Midnight Bleu

$20.00 for 0.038 oz.
NEW; Limited Edition
Arabesque collection (spring 2013)
A smoothly textured eye pencil that provides precise definition and easy, smooth application. Applies evenly without "dragging" or pulling the delicate eye area. Produces clean, precise lines. Can be sharpened to an extremely fine point without breaking off.
This product performs identically to the Laura Mercier eye pencil in Stone Grey (also part of the Arabesque collection for spring 2013--see review here).

The good:
  • Midnight Bleu (navy without shimmer) is a nice neutral alternative to brown or black.
  • Formula has medium-high pigmentation.
  • Lasts all day on the lower lashline.
  • Has long length of wear on my waterline (about 6 hours for me), with no irritation.
  • Price is average for a department store eyeliner.

The not-so-good:
  • Transfers from my upper lashline to my upper eyelid, even with primer and setting powder.

I love love love the color, and love how it does on my lower lashline and waterline--it's definitely better than your average eyeliner for that type of application. However, it's a MAJOR drawback that it transfers from my lashline to my eyelid. I'm going to use up the product I have, but I'm not sure that I would buy another to replace it once it's gone.

Bruised shins are sexy, no? (photo taken with my HTC One X+ provided by HTC)
I have a couple of goals for this year... some of them are vague, some of them are specific. I just need something to work toward :)

Have fun working out. I was pretty burnt out with my former gym routine (mostly running, some elliptical/biking and weight machines). Since I've added kickboxing, I definitely feel challenged. It's really fun, even though my shins are all bruised up from kicking the bag.

Set new PR's for 10K and half marathon distances (without burning out again).  Over the past few months, I've gotten a lot faster, but I haven't actually been in a 10K  race or a half for more than a year. I'd like to see my pace get faster during training, and also hope to see it pay off during a race.

Maintain my weight so that my wedding dress still fits in August! I just bought my wedding dress about a month ago, and I just LOVE it. It fits perfectly, without any alterations. So I'm hoping to maintain my weight/size by eating healthy and working out.

Be better about spending/budgeting money.  We're hoping to close a deal on a house, and I'm trying to pay down my student loans and credit card also. I've been making some good progress, but need to make sure I keep it up! I've been using Mint.com to help budget and keep track of my spending and it's been pretty helpful.

Did you make any resolutions or goals?

Laura Mercier nail lacquer in En Pointe

$18.00 for 0.35 fl oz
Limited Edition
The ultra-smooth formula provides chip-resistant, fast-drying and long-lasting color. Nail Lacquer does not contain formaldehyde, toluene, or dibutyl phthalate (DBP).
En Pointe is a semi-sheer light pink polish with just a tinge of peach. It's very "office appropriate" and also good for a "your nails but better" sort of look. Colors like this are great because even when they chip, it's hardly noticeable. Two coats will get you a fairly sheer coverage, while three coats creates a nearly opaque look.
